The Okavango Delta is one of Africa's best known safari areas and is renowned for its luxurious camps and amazing wildlife experiences. Some of the camps are only accessible by aircraft or boat. This really adds to the intimacy and privacy of a safari holiday in the Okavango Delta. Most of the Okavango Delta is protected with the most important conservation area being the Moremi Game Reserve. There are also many private concessions. The benefits of these include a limited number of guests as well as the fact that in the guides are able to run night drives and to go off road as well as run walking safaris. On the wildlife front, the Okavango Delta has an incredible diversity of wildlife that goes far beyond only the big 5!

The Okavango Delta is at its fullest between June and August and this is also when the highest concentration of animals can be found in the area even though rainfall in the Delta itself is at its highest between December and March. This is mostly in the form of heavy afternoon thunderstorms. December, January and February are hot and wet with daytime temperatures as high as 40C and humidity levels up to 80%. From March to May the temperature drops a bit to a maximum of 30C during the day and mild nights. June, July and August are dry and cold in the Okavango Delta. September to November sees the heat build up again as the Okavango Delta rainy season comes around once more.
