Hike Table Mountain in Cape Town

The Table Mountain Trail Cape Town

This hiking trail is ideal if you only have a few days in South Africa and want to spend time in the buzzing city of Cape Town, but also want a piece of the incredible outdoor beauty that South Africa has to offer.

This is a three day luxurious trail where the only concern that you will have is how to get the incredible scenery all into one photograph. It is guided and portered and the meals are locally inspired with dishes such as cape malay curry as well as a traditional South African braai but all in supreme class.

The trail starts at The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront where you can soak the culture from The Robben Island Museum and the local jazz buskers, it then winds its way through the buzzing city, past the oldest building in South Africa, The Castle of Good Hope, and the first night is spent at the foothills of Table Mountain where you can watch the sparkling city lights come up as the sun sets over Lion’s Head. The next day is up to the top of Table Mountain for some awe-inspiring views and with a walk along the contour path to the highest point In Table Mountain National Park, Maclear’s Beacon. From this spot you can see all the way down to the Cape of Good Hope and on a clear day, all the way out to the Hottentots Mountains of the Winelands. This nights is spent around a campfire cooking a local favourite of flame grilled meat and veggies atop the Majestic table Mountain. This night alone is a great enough reason to walk for three days. The last day is then a gentle pace across the top of the table just to give you a peek at some more beautiful views to the west down towards the Atlantic Ocean and then it is downhill all the way where you finish in the blooming surroundings of Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

You will walk about 6-7 hours a day at an average pace and so the trail does require a certain level of fitness, but the outdoor, on foot experience of the great city of Cape Town and it’s mountain is one that is incomparable.

The cost of this 2 night, 3 day trail is £190 per person and runs on a minimum of 6, maximum of 16 poeple.

This includes all park and museum entrance fees, waterfront boat ride, city guides, trail guides, porters and all meals and accommodation for two nights.
