Abu Elephant Camp was started in the early 90s and is the original elephant safari camp. It was named after a bull elephant from the area that died and is still remembered fondly by many in the area. The camp is situated in the Okavango Delta in Botswana and is one for the bucket list! This is a Pepper approved experience in every way.
Firstly the camp and surroundings as well as the wildlife in the 450 000 acre concession is everything you could want in a safari. The Delta is an exclusive safari area at the best of times, but Abu Camp definitely steps it up a notch or 2! And then of course there is the reason this camp is so loved by anyone who has ever been there; the experience of being part of a wild African elephant herd. From walking with these amazing creatures, to riding them out on safaris, you will be unlikely to match what you experience at Abu anywhere else in the world.
I've included a letter we received from one of our partners on the ground in Botswana who has recently returned form the camp. I think he says it all:
" Having recently just returned from Abu Camp last week, my team and I were simply put, “blown away”. The sheer beauty and revamped style of the guest tents and the main area, the delicious food and personal hosting, and of course the main protagonists the elephants, left us wanting more as we helicoptered out of the camp. Interacting with these majestic animals was a sensational fusion of emotion, learning and enjoyment. Just being in their presence and being able to walk with them in the wilderness, always keeping in mind that they are not tamed, allowed us the privilege of interacting with them as if we were part of the herd.
As we enjoyed two days of activities with them, each elephant’s characteristic shone through and touched our hearts. From curious baby Paseka and boisterous Abu Jnr, to the calm matriarch Cathy, we were amazed and enthralled by their antics and sheer presence in the African bush. Coupled with the game drives and dining surprises, Abu Camp is a must see for all those seasoned and new travellers to Botswana."
This video clip was brought to our attention last week. Its a few years old but still as relevant as ever!
See Cape Town in BBC's Things to do before you die, Table mountain is in at a worthy number 5!
For anyone who has done a bit of travelling out there or planning to do a bit of travelling, www.tripadvisor.com I’m sure, is a bookmarked page on your browser.
With so much information and advertising and options when it comes to travelling it’s pretty difficult to decide on what is just marketed well rather than what actually provides an incredibly good trip. For me Trip Advisor gives you a fantastic impression on whether a destination or accommodation option lives up to its advertised promises.
So we at Pepper of course know that South Africa and especially Cape Town is one of the most incredible places in the world (or else we wouldn’t be doing what we doing) but it so fantastically wonderful to know that so many other millions of travellers out there agree with us. On this year’s Top Destinations list Cape Town came out NUMBER ONE!!!
Yes folks the number one top destination in the world purely based on millions of real and unbiased opinions of travellers. Check it out:

What more reason do you need to make Cape Town your next stop in your process of conquering the world!

It was a busy time for Africa last year. Particulary South Africa which pulled off an incredible football world cup. Everything from the stadiums to the people to the games themselves was spot on and the overall atmosphere was amazing! It created such positivity in the country and has definitely given South Africa exposure to many people who didn't know much about it beforehand. It got me thinking that with a lot of hype in the media about safety concerns etc. it's ironic that South Africa is one of the safest places you can be in the world righ now!
With the general worldwide economic climate, the natural disasters happening on seemingly larger and larger scales and the political situation in much of the world at the moment, I get a sense that people are more anxious and scared than ever before. The solution to this for me is travel! To get out into the world and realise that everything you see in the news isn't all true and that the world is a beatiful and varied pace is to take a stand against that fear that seems to be everywhere these days. Southern Africa has its problems like any other region in the world but if you are worried about natural disasters or civil wars its a good place to be right now!
Happy travels!
The busy summer period in Cape Town is now in full swing and people are flocking to the fairest Cape of them all for sun, sea and festive fun. What better time then than this to remind ourselves just why it's such a popular destination?
The outdoors has never been so appealing, so while we continue to suffer at the unrelenting hands of the Big Freeze in good old blighty, here are some visual reminders of what awaits you, once the de-icers have done their collective jobs and we can head for the skies and the furthest tip of the African continent....enjoy!
