Gap Year Experiences

Updates and info from on the ground during our 11 week and 5 week Experiences in South Africa

Just Chill Bro...

Wind swept and chilled as a stoned naturist, I look forward to another evening in Cape Town. Having spent a really fulfilling day on Long beach diving with various creatures of the deep, I am going to venture apart from the group and get some exercise with Doug playing some indoor footy. The purgation of my battered body through strenuous physical endeavours will be a welcome change from the relaxed pace of first gear, in which I have been revelling since January 6th.

Enough of the rhetoric... The past week has been an absolute blast. As far back as Sunday I can remember, so I’ll start there. We went to a charity 20-20 match at Newlands and bathed ourselves in the glory of the African sun, whilst bulky Stormers’ team members did their best not to get annihilated by the Boland Cricket team. Surprisingly, the match was tied! And so, after a well deserved free meat feast at the quintessentially South African ‘Spur’, the Pepper team geared up for a night of sun drenched, drunken carnage on the coast.

The event: Georgia’s 19th. The intention: self explanatory really. The South African electro duo, Goldfish, really put the icing on the cake....

Along came Monday morning, and we all awoke snuggled in our respective hubs of tequila breath and thoughts of chunder... However, we soldiered on and found ourselves at the top of the Llandudno cliffs, peering into the foamy depths below. Logan, the surf instructor demonstrated with the ease of a natural cliff diver, how we all might leap from the relative safety of the rocks into the icy waters. It was just the adrenaline binge I was looking for and the peaceful après - sleep on the beach was that much more satisfying for it.

Unfortunately, the time has come for my departure and so I bid everyone adieu and have a great evening, wherever you may be.....

Till next time,

Jake
