Gap Year Experiences

Updates and info from on the ground during our 11 week and 5 week Experiences in South Africa

Strong winds and sunny days

Hey all..
Sunday and everyone has been here for 2 weeks already. Looking at the group now, it seems crazy that they only met 2 weeks ago. But then thinking how much we've done you can understand how they've grown so close so quickly. I can only begin to imagine how close everyone is going to be in 2 and a half months time when we all finally say our good-byes.

Thursday we had plans to do some kiteboarding but the famous Cape Town South Easter was having none of it an was absolutely howling through the city. So instead, we drove to a nearby water-filled quarry where they have a cable skiing system. For those of you that have never heard of it, it is a cable that runs in a circuit around the quarry. Its almost like waterskiing or wakeboarding, but without the boat. It was awesome fun and a little taster of whats to come in the wakeboarding camp in a weeks time. Thursday night is a good night out in Cape Town and we headed to Camps Bay for a really good night out.

Friday morning, the wind had died slightly and we were good to go for some kiting. We ended up spending most of the day on the beach and everyone moved from flying the kites on the beach to getting into the water where they really got a taste of what this sport is about, dragging themsleves along the shoreline with the kite. George and Enzo got some good airtime while Annie was looking like a natural in the water. After a really tiring but incredibly satisfying day, we headed back home where Enzo came second in a pool competition and Marisa apparently whipped up an amazing feast for everyone.

Saturday, the wind died completely and the heat got up to 35 degrees maing it a definite beach day. We hit the beach and met up with the surfing instructors. The conditions were perfect and I think some of the group have now really got stoke of surfing with everyone standing up and catching some nice clean waves. Hattie was catching more waves than the rest of the group combined and looking really good until she heard rumours of a jellyfish somewhere in the water and had to be carried out by the instructors. But she soon got over it and paddled back out.

Today is Georges birthday..so HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE!!!!!!

Anyway..I've uploaded loads of pictures so enjoy the visual treats below...
