Gap Year Experiences
Updates and info from on the ground during our 11 week and 5 week Experiences in South Africa

Hello Everyone!
Firstly, I sincerely apologise for the delay in this first blog of the trip. Unfortunately we had some technical difficulties with our site. Good news is that it has been an incredible few days in Cape Town with everyone firmly stuck in to their courses.
Due to the disturbing weather in UK last week we had a bit of a reshuffle/delay/cancellation of flight arrivals which filled the first couple of days with some staggered levels of excitement. Luckily everyone did arrive safely to our pimping pad in Langebaan on the West Coast and by Friday afternoon we had a full house. Although we had prime location on the beachfront, cloudless blue skies, and an ever enthusiastic bunch of new arrivals, the wind hindered full time beach action. In hindsight though, I feel this was a saving grace for the still sensitive British skin tones (kake will agree I'm sure). Everyone still got in a sneaky couple of swims in the crisp Atlantic and the days were kept busy with the new addiction of Hacky Sack. "Hacky sack?" you ask, "What might that be?" For now I will leave you in a little bit of suspense and just say that it is one extremely frustrating, yet addictive game that we like to play down in our side of the world.
Georgie's dance manouvres (with headphones in her ears, I'm not sure that she herslf realised this was entertaining to the rest of us), Harry's new canine friend and Annie's seizure of the music player were moments to remember and along with a few rounds of Arrogance and Spoons we all made our way back into Cape Town on Saturday as a pretty satisfied bunch.
On arrival in Cape Town we had a quick orientation of the area and then started the evening with a drink on the water's edge in Hout Bay followed by a sunset boat cruise where we made our way out of the bay towards Duiker Island which is jam packed with a colony of Cape fur Seals. With punch flowing and the sun setting a pretty good time was had by all (although Liv might not neccessarily agree with this). The night ended with a great dance session at Karma in Camps Bay. I think everyone enjoyed their introduction to a city that will be their home for the next couple of weeks.
Yesterday morning saw the start to the first set of courses with some heading down to the dive shop while others hit the beach with their surf boards. More details will be put up in the next edition of this adventure story.
Apologise once again for late post and will make it up to you all by adding a whole bunch of pics first thing in the morning.
Chat soon,
Pip.
