LATEST:Travel picture of the week - Hout Bay in Cape Town |
This is the ultimate “do it all” Gap Year programme. In an action packed seven weeks you’ll try out and gain usable qualifications in sailing, SCUBA diving and kitesurfing. Also learn to surf in some of the best beginner waves in the world and spend a week taking awesome photos with a local production company.
Cape Town is the perfect playground to get stuck into all these things and then combine it with a week’s volunteering at our partner project – The Ubuntu Foundation in Khayelitsha.
Explore the ocean; diving in it, sailing on it, and surfing on its waves. Cape Town’s all about the beautiful combination of the ocean and the mountain and the active outdoor lifestyle that goes with it.

You’ll either be collected at your accommodation by your surf pro or divemaster or one of the Pepper guides, depending on what week of the course it is. You’ll be kept busy for the full seven weeks and whether you’re in the ocean, on the ocean, on a wave or up the mountain you’ll be in expert company with qualified instructors in whatever programme you’re on.
The week by week schedule has been designed specially to ensure you get the most you possibly can out of this incredible city. The focus is on the great outdoors, adventure and adrenaline but there are also important and usable qualifications to be gained along the way. And don’t worry, there’ll still be plenty of time to explore the winelands, see the penguins and shop till you drop, or at least until it’s time to head out for the evening!
Achievable qualifications include your PADI Open Water in SCUBA diving, RYA Competent Crew Certificate in sailing, and an IKO Level 3 Kitesurfing as well as your surfing and digital photography certificate. Also to look forward to is reduced rates on SCUBA diving, surfing and kitesurfing gear.
Each week is run by a different person. From sailing instructor to kitesurfing pro and divemaster to volunteer coordinator you’ll be in good hands, and there’s always a Pepper guide around to help you make the most of your evenings and weekends together.
