Kanana is a hidden gem located on the Xudum River in the southwest Okavango. This is the perfect introduction to the delta and the wonders of water based safaris. This intimate camp has a very relaxed feel and allows for safaris by land, boat and foot giving you the full Botswana game experience. The water level changes dramatically throughout the year and in the early months of the year you may actually enjoy the visible spectacle of the water rising around the camp.

You will be staying in one of eight spacious, twin-bedded safari ‘Meru’ style tents, set on raised teak decks with breathtaking views across the waterways. All tents offer en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, shower and flush toilet. The tents are well spaced affording privacy, whilst still being within comfortable distance from the central dining and lounge area.

The choice of activities will depend on the water levels of the Okavango Delta at that time and your professional guide will help you explore the best areas in relation to the environment. You can enjoy game drives in specially designed vehicles in the morning and late afternoon, into the evening on night drives. You may explore the crystal clear waterways by mokoro or powerboats, and enjoy the magnificent variety of birds, plant and reptile species found in the area. For birding enthusiasts, Kanana hosts a seasonal heronry that teems with activity from July through to the summer months. We also encourage people to take advantage of the guided walks in this stunning area as well as fly or spin fishing for tilapia, African pike and sharp tooth catfish.
You will also have private access to one of the largest heronry’s in the Okavango Delta by motorboat. It is also an excellent area for birding with regular sightings of the Pel’s Fishing Owl.
Kanana is situated on a private concession by the Xudum River in the southwest Okavango Delta. Being on a private concession means the camp is left to their own devices without restrictions which allows for guided walks, mokoro excursions and night drives in addition to game drives and motor boating (water levels permitting).
Beginning of March to the end of December
Kanana is a water based paradise which brings all the wonders of a safari experience in the Okavango Delta to life. The fact that you can experience the wildlife by mokoro, vehicle and foot is a true blessing.
