The Ongava Tented Camp is back to the old way of doing safari, almost! There are no fences between you and the lions drinking at the waterhole, this is the real thing. Set in 30,000 hectares of private game reserve, you really feel like you’re sleeping out in the bush, but all the luxuries you need like great big double beds and delicious meals are still there.

Why We Love Ongava Tented Lodge
Despite calling itself a Tented Camp, they’ve got just the right balance between an open game reserve experience and luxurious living. There’s also something very humbling about sharing such close quarters with such potentially dangerous beasts while nothing beats evenings around the campfire swapping stories of close encounters.

Ongava Game Reserve borders the south of The Etosha National Park, which is in the north of Namibia, a six hour drive or one hour twenty minute charter flight from Windhoek.

With just eight individual chalets, emphasis is on intimacy and the communal dining table encourages a friendly, open vibe. Outside of the camp itself, there’s the added bonus of being as close to the Andersson Gate of the Etosha National Park as is possible. So once you’ve had your fill in Ongava, head next door for Elephants roaming the massive salt pans – an experience not to be missed.
