The Garden Route

This strip of land between the majestic Outeniqua mountain range and the Indian Ocean is a paradise for eco-lovers, solitude seekers and adventure enthusiasts. It is dotted with many majestic views and pristine coastlines. It has a perfect mixture of small town charm and hospitality as well as world famous sights, activities and beauty.

This 200km strip starts at the small town of Stillbaai and runs all the way up to the Tsitsikamma forest. It’s contrasting landscape is so unique as the mountains crowd close to the shoreline forming small bays, gushing waterfalls, gorges and then some open plateaus consisting of lakes and vividly coloured farmlands.

The Garden Route has a very mild climate with the temperature ranging between 10 and 30 through the year. The easiest route through the Garden Route is the N2 highway which runs from Cape Town along the coastline, however there are a lot of beautiful and scenic back roads that run through this part of the country and it is a great self-drive route. Some of the better known towns include Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Mossel Bay, George and Oudtshoorn.
